Mitt Romney: Trump’s rallies are like professional wrestling — ‘entertaining but not real’

Speaking to CNN’s Jake Tapper on State of the Union this Sunday, Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) took a dig at the rallies still being hosted by former President Donald Trump, saying they’re big on the entertainment factor but light on substance.

“Here in the US, there’s a growing recognition that this is a bit like WWF (World Wrestling Federation). That it’s entertaining, but it’s not real,” Romney said.

“And I know people want to say, yeah, they believe in the ‘Big Lie’ in some cases, but I think people recognize that it’s a lot of show, and bombast. But it’s going nowhere. The election is over. It was fair … let’s move on,” he added.

Trump continues to regurgitate false claims about mass voter fraud in the 2020 election in his rallies, which he also uses to attack fellow Republicans who he thinks don’t sufficiently support him.

Romney was the only GOP senator who voted to convict Trump in his first impeachment trial and was one of only nine Republicans who voted to convict him in the second impeachment trial.
