Mormon church publishes Sunday program with Obi-Wan Kenobi on the cover

A Latter-Day Saint church in Minnesota was on the receiving end of a prank that made its way to the headlines of a local news outlet this Tuesday, and it all has to do with the fact that Ewan McGregor’s portrayal of Obi-Wan Kenobi in those God-awful Star Wars prequels looks a hell of a lot like the classic depictions of Jesus Christ.

So much so, that the prankster was able to sneak an image of Obi-Wan onto the church’s Sunday program, nestled among other images of Jesus.

Speaking to Fox 13 Salt Lake City, Mandy McConnell Wright claimed credit for the prank. She shared an image of the program to her Instagram, which has since been made private.

“I have seen a lot out there where people think this is fake or was an accident from googling Jesus pics not knowing it was Obi Wan,” Wright told Fox 13. “I was fully aware of what I was doing.”

The prank is reminiscent of a story DeadState covered last year about a Utah man who hung a portrait of McGregor’s Obi-Wan in his parents’ living room.

“It stuck out to me as looking like a picture we had growing up of Jesus,” the man who only wanted to be identified as “Ryan” said. “I kind of chased that thought to, how funny would it be if my parents didn’t recognize who it was and actually hung it up on the wall. I have always tried to get away with things or pull some pranks on my family members and this seemed perfect.”

I reached out to Wright to see how the prank went over. I’ll update this article if I hear back.
