Newt Gingrich tells it straight to Fox & Friends: ‘Trump is the candidate you guys invented’

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told Fox & Friends hosts that they’ve basically invented Donald Trump‘s candidacy by having limitless “happy, positive conversations” with the GOP frontrunner.

Gingrich appeared on Monday morning show to discuss the Republican establishment’s apparent vexation with Trump leading in nearly every national poll.

“This is their nightmare scenario,” Fox & Friends host Steve Doocy said.

“The billionaire is spending the least amount of money and running away with this thing,” co-host Brian Kilmeade added.

“That’s because of you guys,” Gingrich interrupted.

“Donald Trump gets up in the morning, tweets to the entire planet at no cost, picks up the phone, calls you, has a great conversation for about eight minutes — which would have cost him a ton in commercial money. And meanwhile, his opponents are all out there trying to raise the money to run an ad.”

Kilmeade noted that other Republican candidates, like Mitt Romney, had refused to appear on Fox and Friends for three months.

“Donald Trump from day one made himself available – for the big and small, it paid off,” Kilmeade said.

“Look, you can say that Trump is the candidate Fox & Friends invented,” Gingrich shot back. “He was on your show more than any other show.”

“Every Monday,” Doocy recalled.

“It was always a happy, positive conversation,” Gingrich continued.
