Over 1.5 million people sign petition for Netflix to cancel show about a gay Jesus

A petition demanding that Netflix cancel a Christmas comedy series that implies Jesus is gay has reached almost half a million signatures as of this writing.

The Brazilian comedy group Porta dos Fundos is behind the show, titled, The First Temptation of Christ, which has angered viewers over its depiction of Christ.

In the comments of the petition, people slammed the comedy group for showing religious discrimination and “derision and disrespect for the faith of the Catholic Church and especially for God.”

“No one is obliged to believe in Jesus Christ, but we demand respect for our beliefs,” one commenter wrote, who claimed to have canceled his Netflix subscription over the show. “Whoever disrespects my God does not deserve my money.”

Porta dos Fundos, which reaches most of its audience through YouTube, issued a statement saying that they value “artistic freedom and humor through satire on the most diverse cultural themes of our society and believes that freedom of expression is an essential construction for a democratic country.”
