Pat Robertson: Treating LGBT people equally will ‘bring the judgement of God on America’

On today’s episode of the 700 Club, Pat Robertson tore into the Equality Act, warning his followers that its implementation would invite the wrath of God on the U.S.

Earlier in the show, Robertson was speaking to the Liberty Counsel’s Mat Staver, who said the Equality Act is “the biggest threat to religious freedom and freedom in general and the sanctity of human life” to ever come out of Congress. Robertson then appealed to his audience to contact their members of Congress and lobby against the bill.

“This is a devastating blow to religious freedom and to the sanctity of America,” he said in a video clip flagged by Right Wing Watch. “If you want to bring the judgment of God on this nation, you just keep this stuff up.”

“I was reading in Leviticus where it said, ‘Because of these things, the land will vomit you out.’ … I think God will say, ‘I’ve had it with America, if you do this kind of stuff, I’m going to get rid of you as a nation,'” he added.

The Equality Act seeks to amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Fair Housing Act and ban anti-LGBT discrimination in employment, housing, and other public accommodations. The bill expected to be voted on in the U.S. House this Friday, and has met considerable opposition from religious conservatives, including President Trump.

“The Trump administration absolutely opposes discrimination of any kind and supports the equal treatment of all; however, this bill in its current form is filled with poison pills that threaten to undermine parental and conscience rights,” the senior administration official told the Washington Blade via email.

According to Robertson, the bill will only exacerbate threats that America already faces.

“When you look at the potential of atomic war, when you look at the potential of a solar strike or something on our grid, you could go down the line of devastation that could happen to our nation. We don’t want that. We want the blessing of God, not the curse of God.”
