Pennsylvania Lt Gov flies weed and LGBT flags at state Capitol in defiance of GOP’s order

Pennsylvania’s Democratic Lt. Gov. says he plans to continue defying an order from the state’s GOP-controlled legislature banning unauthorized flags on federal grounds.

Pro-marijuana legalization and pride flags were removed from John Fetterman‘s office balcony this week, but he quickly replaced them, The Hill reports. The legislature in November included in its budget legislation a provision banning the display of non-approved flags.

Fetterman has said that he has no intention of removing the flags until lawmakers legalize marijuana for recreational use or make discrimination against someone based on their sexual orientation or gender identity illegal.

“I was just making a statement. I never in a million years thought that they would actually write a law to ban them,” Fetterman told NBC News in reference to the flags. “They can’t understand how ridiculous this looks. They’re all about free speech except when it’s speech they don’t like, apparently.”

“The GOP collectively shrugged when a couple of its members were photographed down in D.C. on Jan. 6, but my pride and weed flags are a point of outrage for them?” he added.
