A South Carolina K-9 was shot and killed during a non-training activity at its handler’s home this Sunday, WYFF reported.
The Greenville County Sheriff’s deputy was reportedly an experienced K-9 handler but was attacked by the male Belgian Malinois.
Despite verbal commands and repeated attempts by witnesses to get the dog to release the deputy, it would not let go. That’s when a family member of the deputy shot the dog.
The K-9 died and the deputy was sent to the hospital and “is expected to recover after some time,” Lt. Ryan Flood said.
The deputy was caring for the K-9, whose primary handler was away at training.
