Police lieutenant arrested for DUI flees hospital after agreeing to a blood test

An Atlanta Police Lieutenant has been knocked down to “non-enforcement status” after he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, WSB-TV reported.

Georgia State Patrol says Renato Ayana’s SUV was found crashed off the roadway in Paulding County just after midnight on Sunday morning, and a responding officer said “he could smell alcohol on Mr. Anaya’s breath” and found an open container in his vehicle.

Ayana was taken to Wellstar Paulding where he agreed to a blood test, but when an officer went to retrieve his testing kit, hospital staff said he fled.

Officers later found him at a business across the street from the hospital and took him into custody.

Ayana was also charged with failure to maintain a lane and having an open container.
