Adult website redirects Utah viewers to comprehensive sex education videos

This Monday, Utah lawmakers overwhelmingly rejected a bill that would have allowed parents to opt for comprehensive sex education classes for their kids. In response, the adult video site xHamster is rerouting all Utah traffic to pg-13 sex ed videos.

“Beginning immediately, we’re rerouting all xHamster traffic from Utah to our comprehensive sex ed series, The Box,” xHamster said in a statement on their website. “We’ve been working on The Box since last year, producing videos based on questions submitted by porn viewers.”

A popup on the site reads, “Can we turn the thirstiest state in the nation into the smartest?” Viewers then have the option of being redirected to its sex ed series, The Box.

The bill rejected by Utah lawmakers, HB 215, would have given parents an alternative to abstinence education — a religious-based form of sex ed that most experts agree is ineffective. xHamster is also responding to Utah’s war on pornography, which politicians in the state have deemed to be a “public  health hazard.”

From The Friendly Atheist:

[The series of sex-ed videos], which appears on family-friendly YouTube, is apparently more informational than anything you’ll find in a Utah classroom.

When a porn website shows a greater desire to educate students than elected officials who prefer to keep them sheltered, you know your state is heading in the wrong direction.

According to a 2009 report, Utah ranked #1 in subscriptions to adult websites.
