Preacher: We ‘overreacted’ to coronavirus — The flu already killed ’20 million people’ (he’s wrong)

In an segment from his show posted to his YouTube channel this Wednesday, Christian pastor Andrew Wommack said that when the history is written on the coronavirus outbreak, the world will realize that the reaction amounted to “overreach.”

“It’ll probably, I believe, make us more cautious in the future about doing something like this, instead of this becoming a new norm where they just lock this down,” Wommack said in a video clip flagged by Right Wing Watch.

“You know they had, if I’m correct, I think it’s already 20 million people in the U.S. died of flu during this season, from September up until now” he continued.

“Twenty million,” Wommack reiterated. “I think that’s right — anyway, it’s a huge amount.”

Wommack is not correct. As the CDC points out, this flu season there’s been anywhere between 24,000 to 62,000 deaths.
