Pro-gun Parkland teacher arrested after leaving loaded handgun in public restroom

In a men’s room in on the Deerfield Beach pier in Broward County, Florida, a drunken homeless man stumbled upon a loaded gun. He picked it up and fired it into the wall, but thankfully no one was hurt.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the gun was left there by Sean Simpson, a Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School teacher who gained media attention due to his support for arming teachers.

As the Miami Herald points out, Simpson told police that he accidentally forgot the gun. When he realized what he’d done, the Glock handgun had already been picked up by a drunk homeless man who fired the weapon into a wall.

According to reports, Simpson wrestled the gun away from the man, who was charged with firing a weapon while intoxicated.

Simpson was arrested and charged with failure to safely store a firearm. He posted a $250 bond and was released.

According to a local ABC News affiliate, Simpson is not expected to face any disciplinary action from the school.
