QAnon-believing Jan 6 rioter who led mob that chased down Capitol cop is slapped with 5-year prison sentence

The Iowa man who chased down U.S. Capitol Police officer Eugene Goodman during the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021 was sentenced to a lengthy prison term this Friday, CNN reports.

Doug Jensen, who stormed the Capitol that day wearing a T-shirt with a large “Q” emblazoned on the front, was among the first rioters to breach the building. This Friday he was sentenced to 5 years in prison.

“You, by your own actions, put yourself at the forefront of that mob,” Judge Timothy Kelly told Jensen before handing down his verdict. The sentence includes 36 months of supervised release after Jensen finishes his term and $2,000 in restitution fees. Kelly said that the long history of a peaceful transition of power in the US was “snapped” by Jensen and others. “We can’t get that back, it’s broken.”

“We cannot, as a country, have what happened on January 6, 2021, ever happen again,” Kelly added.

“He believed the ‘storm’ had arrived and that corrupt politicians were going to be arrested,” Jensen’s attorney, Christopher Davis, wrote in a court filing in reference to a QAnon slogan.

Davis wrote that Jensen has moved on from his QAnon beliefs and Trump’s false claims of election fraud. “He has had more than enough time to dwell upon his actions. He wants to return to his normal life, raise his children, and be with his wife.”

Back in September, prosecutors said that Jensen was “ready to topple” every barrier he encountered that day and inhaled police pepper spray “like it was oxygen.”

Jensen’s attorney, Christopher Davis, said his client was as a “confused man” and “lone wolf” who had fallen for QAnon conspiracy theories and had extreme stress from the pandemic.

Speaking to the press in September, Davis said his client “had a lot of issues, had a lot of problems back when all this occurred. And it’s just sad.”
