Rand Paul: The death threats I’ve been getting are Richard Marx’s fault

The FBI is investigating a suspicious package containing white powder and a threatening image that was sent to GOP Sen. Rand Paul‘s home in Kentucky on Monday, Fox News reports.

“I’ll finish what your neighbor started you motherf——,” the message in the package read, which included an image of a gun pointed at the head of a bruised and battered Paul. Test shows the powder to be non-threatening.

In a statement shared on Monday, Paul said that he takes the threat “immensely seriously.”

“I have been targeted multiple times now, it is reprehensible that Twitter allows C-list celebrities to advocated for violence against me and my family,” Paul said. “This must stop. Just this weekend Richard Marx called for violence against me and now we receive this despicable powder filled letter.”

The tweet Paul is referring to came from Marx’s Twitter account on Sunday, which read, “I’ll say it again: If I ever meet Rand Paul’s neighbor I’m going to hug him and buy him as many drinks as he can consume.”

Marx has since deleted the tweet.
