Right-wing ‘journalist’ Jacob Wohl gets caught in Jussie Smollett-style publicity scheme

In the wake of the Jussie Smollett debacle, there’s another person under scrutiny for possibly giving a false report to police. This time it’s the less-than-impressive right-wing provocateur and career disseminator of falsehoods, Jacob Wohl.

According to the Daily Beast, Wohl apparently used a Twitter account he owned to send himself threats.

From the Daily Beast’s Will Sommer:

Wohl was getting footage to chronicle a trip he and Laura Loomer took to Minneapolis to investigate a debunked conspiracy theory about Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar. Wohl led viewers to believe that he was in a dangerous situation in Minneapolis, and the video showed him going to a local police station to report threats he claimed to be receiving.

According to Sommer, Wohl submitted the texts he sent to himself as evidence of “terroristic threats.”

One of Wohl’s allies in the online world of far-right punditry has apparently abandoned him in light of the revelations.

“It confirms that he’s not operating at a level where there’s useful misinformation, but kind of stupid, vanity-filled, ego-fueled disinformation,” Ali Alexander said according to the Daily Beast. “And that won’t look good for Jacob.”

“I can’t wait to cooperate,” Ali said regarding any potential investigation.

Aside from disseminating conspiracy theories and misinformation, Wohl garnered attention in October for an alleged plot to derail the Mueller investigation. The plot was foiled when a woman came forward to say Wohl attempted to dupe her into making false sexual assault accusations against Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

Last month, Wohl’s Twitter account was permanently suspended for “multiple violations of the Twitter Rules, specifically creating and operating fake accounts.”

Wohl’s predicament is already drawing comparisons to Jussie Smollett, the Empire actor who staged an attack on himself in an apparent scheme to boost his career.

I’d love to include some tweets from Ali Alexander in this article, but I noticed that he has me blocked on Twitter and I can’t remember exactly why. My alt-Twitter account is locked, so any screenshots from readers would be appreciated.
