In the wake of the FBI’s raid on Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Rudy Giuliani says that President Biden can expect raid himself if Trump wins back the presidency in 2024.
Giuliani told The New York Post that it would only be fair game if Trump turned the FBI on Biden if he becomes president since, according to him, the raid on Trump’s resort was politically motivated.
“If Trump gets elected [president], the first thing he’ll do is raid every one of Biden’s houses,” he said.
“All of a sudden, you’re the first president of the United States who introduced the banana-republic process of prosecuting your predecessor. We’ve avoided it for 240 years. Trump didn’t do it to Hillary. Ford didn’t do it,” he said, suggesting that the raid opened up a new era in presidents investigating their predecessors.
But as VICE News’ Cameron Joseph points out, Giuliani’s memory is short.
“Trump spent his four years as president attempting to weaponize the government to hurt his political adversaries—steps that only failed because of clumsiness and resistance from key officials within his administration. … There’s also those oh-so-coincidental IRS audits of FBI Director James Comey and his deputy, Andrew McCabe, two men Trump despised and fired. The IRS audited just 5,000 returns the year Comey was “randomly” selected out of the 153 million individual returns filed,” writes Joseph.
