Watching this female Saudi TV host crack up at her guest’s ridiculous ‘solution’ to the ‘problem’ of female drivers was the best thing I’ve seen today.
Her guest was historian Saleh Al-Saadoon, who argued that if women are allowed to drive, it would put them in danger of being sexually assaulted. According to him, women in America and Europe don’t really care about being raped, so that’s why it’s not such a hot-button issue for the West.
You can almost smell the host’s incredulity as Al-Saadoon continues on with his argument, adding that rape isn’t so much a moral attack on a women, but more of a “social and religious” insult.
But when Al-Saadoon offers his ultimate solution to the problem (at about 2:03 of the clip), the host simply can’t hold her laughter in anymore.
Terry Firma of Patheos’ Atheist Channel said it best:
Laughter is a fantastic weapon against pomposity and false authority, so laugh away, friends. You knocked the risible Al-Sadoon off his patriarchal perch, and we’re laughing right along with you, cheering you on.
To be honest though, I’ve heard a few GOP politicians say more ridiculous things than this guy.
