School employee suspended after calling Black student the N-word on video

An employee at an Iowa high school has been suspended after video circulated online showing the employee using the N-word towards a Black student, The Daily Beast reported.

The video that was taken at Dubuque Hempstead High School snows a White male employee looking towards a Black student who walks into the frame.

“What you looking at, n*****?” the now-fired employee says.

The unidentified employee then immediately apologizes.

Dubuque Hempstead High School Assistant Principal Julia Jorgenson told The Beast that the employee has been suspended and the school is investigated.

“I want to be clear in saying that the actions shown in this video are not acceptable and do not represent the values of Hempstead High School or the Dubuque Community School District,” Jorgenson said. “I have talked personally with many students and parents today, as have members of our administrative team and staff across the building, to reinforce that we are here to support students today and moving forward.”
