Scientists say this is the most soothing piece of music ever recorded. What do you think?

According to scientists, the piece of music you’re about to hear is the most relaxing melody ever recorded.

According to scientists, the piece of music you’re about to hear is the most relaxing melody ever recorded.

Its ability to reduce your heart rate, blood pressure and stress levels is above all other melodies. Skeptical? So are we. Apparently, the 8-minute track is so relaxing it shouldn’t be listened to while driving.

From The Telegraph:

Manchester trio Marconi Union worked with sound therapists to create the soothing tune, which also slows breathing and reduces brain activity.

Scientists played the song to 40 women and found it to be more effective at helping them relax than songs by Enya, Mozart and Coldplay.

The study – commissioned by bubble bath and shower gel firm Radox Spa – found the song was even more relaxing than a massage, walk or cup of tea.

Now, we here at DeadState are lovers of science – but we think there are some things that can’t be narrowed down by a simple study – and the transcendent power of music is one of those things.

Have a listen (maybe earphones are best) and decide for yourself:

Pink and white noise is always relaxing. Even brown noise can be. I really don’t think this is anything new.

Really dumb, And I didn’t care for the jab at Coldplay. Simply untrue and it really says a lot more about the author of the “article” than anything.

That’s not a piece of music, It’s a tone cluster involving g minor (mostly) and never changes.

Mostly this makes me want to smash kittens and shoot panda bears.

Ok I might be exaggerating, but that was not calming or relaxing at all. Boring maybe.

Not to mention that it takes just a little more than background noise with a few random notes on top to be called music.

Music does not function causally. If there’s ever to be a chance of a science of music–and there ain’t, much–it’ll be when lab-coated charlatans stop kidding themselves on this point.

Honestly? I didn’t find it at all relaxing. Some of the higher notes (especially the one right at the end) and the endless bell ringing (sounded like my phone!) were actually kind of irritating.

Don’t know what the other commentators on here were listening to but that was one of the most relaxing and tension easing pieces I have heard in a long time. Combine that with a full body massage and I’m in heaven !!
