Sex shop owner harassed and threatened after displaying ‘dildo nativity scene’

According to Spain’s English-language outlet The Local, a sex shop in the town of Talavera de la Reina near Toledo caused a slight uproar for their nativity scene concept.

Non Sit Peccatum’s owner Héctor Valdivielso commissioned an artist to paint Baby Jesus, Joseph and Mary’s images in ceramic sex toys.

The display was initially popular, but anger from people offended by the display began to create trouble for Valdivielso.

“A man with his wife ordered me to remove the offending scene and said that if I didn’t he would remove it himself,” he said in a Facebook post, adding that he was subject to a barrage of insults and had to call the police.

Someone then scrawled the word “pecadores (which means “sinners”) on the shop’s sign.

Further affecting Valdivielso’s business, a group calling themselves the “Children of the Virgin Mary” organized a boycott on his store. Soon after, a group of protesters gathered out front to harass incoming costumers.

“It was affecting my business,” Valdivielso said. “Who wants to come to a store like this to hear a sermon?”

Eventually, the display was removed. Valdivielso has since asked the local community to vote on whether or not the scene should be displayed again.
