Video has emerged showing teenagers physically assaulting a boy with Down Sydrome inside a bathroom at a Chicago high school.
According to the New York Post, the video was shot Thursday at York Community High School in Elmhurst. In the video, the boy is pushed to the ground as teens surround him and laugh. At one point, the boy retreats into a bathroom stall in an attempt to hide. “Get him!” one teen can be heard shouting.
“Immediately upon receiving this report, our school team began investigating,” principal Shahe Bagdasarian told the Chicago Tribune. “Parents were contacted and students were interviewed. Upon completion of the investigation by the school, appropriate consequences will be issued to those involved.”
Superintendent Keisha Campbell told parents that the district is “deeply disappointed and saddened by the actions of this small group of students. Bullying, intimidation, and harassment diminish a student’s ability to learn and a school’s ability to educate.”
“Such behaviors are not tolerated, and any student who chooses to engage in these behaviors will face the appropriate consequences,” Campbell added.
WGN-TV reports that students are planning a walkout this Friday over the incident.
