Swedish government: Who the hell is this Swedish ‘national security adviser’ Fox News guest?

The week, Fox News featured a guest whose credentials are now being called into question, according to The Washington Post.

On Bill O’Reilly‘s The O’Reilly Factor this Thursday, Swedish journalist Anne-Sofie Naslund appeared alongside “Swedish defense and national security advisor” Nils Bildt to talk about the country’s immigration policy.

But as the Post reported, Sweden’s Dagens Nyheter newspaper said that the Swedish government has no idea who Bildt is.

From WaPo:

But who is Nils Bildt? Dagens Nyheter reported that Bildt had in fact emigrated from Sweden in 1994 and that he was originally named Nils Tolling. The newspaper also said Bildt had been convicted of a violent offense while living in Virginia and was given a one-year prison sentence in 2014.

When reached via email, Bildt initially didn’t dispute the paper’s account and claimed that Fox had given him the “National Security Adviser” title without his consent. He later followed up and denied that he had spent any time in prison.

“Had I spent a year in prison, I would think I would remember it,” Bildt said according to Wapo.

Nevertheless, Fox defended its choice to have Bildt on the show.

“Our booker made numerous inquiries and spoke to people who recommended Nils Bildt and after pre-interviewing him and reviewing his bio, we agreed that he would make a good guest for the topic that evening,” Fox’s David Tabacoff told the Post.
