According to Clare Lopez, one of Ted Cruz‘s named “national security advisers,” the U.S. government has been owned and operated by the Muslim Brotherhood for generations.
“[Muslim Brotherhood] affiliates and associates and those connected to it are the go-to advisers, if not appointees, for the top levels of national security in our government, in this administration for sure, but going back many decades, really, is the program of this Brotherhood,”
Lopez is a member of the Center for Security Policy, an extremist conspiracy hotbed led by the notoriously wacky Frank Gaffney, who believes staunchly that the Muslim Brotherhood has taken control of our government for complicated reasons and through complicated means. Ted Cruz has said that Gaffney would be another one of his national security advisors.

In response to this very real Muslin threat, Lopez thinks that we should engage in a Joseph McCarthy-era style witch hunt for supposed secret Muslims. She thinks we should take the exact measures taken by one of American history’s most notorious villains, and that red-baiting senator from the 1950s was totally right when he ruined the lives of anyone who disagreed with him based on a list which only he could see.
“And then, like now, we were unprepared and in large measure unaware of what was going on, at least until the House Un-American Activities got rolling in the 1950s with Sen. Joseph McCarthy, who absolutely was spot-on in just about everything he said about the levels of infiltration. So we have precedent for this where we were not fully aware of the infiltration occurring at the time.”
While Donald Trump regularly absorbs media attention and focus with his outlandish antics, it is important to note that Ted Cruz, who is considered the most traditional conservative candidate in the race, wants to take national security advice from people who believe in conspiracy theories and want to take us back to the days of McCarthyism. No one should have been surprised when Cruz recently declared that the police force needs to secure American Muslim neighborhoods.
