Teen cheerleader who stuffed her newborn baby in a hospital trash can claims she didn’t know she was pregnant

The New Mexico teenager who allegedly stuffed her newborn baby in a hospital trash can before it was found dead says she didn’t know she was pregnant, according to her lawyer.

The Artesia Police Department says Alexee Trevizo, 19, went to the hospital in December complaining of back pain, and then returned weeks later with the same issue. On her return, she went into labor and had the baby, and then disposed of it, Inside Edition reported.

“She’s obviously panicked and she tried to take care of her baby. She tried to rescue the baby, she tried to take care of the baby and the baby was dead,” her lawyer Gary Mitchell tells Inside Edition, adding that the teen high school cheerleader did not know she was pregnant.

“She didn’t gain a bunch of weight, she didn’t have anything that would indicate to her that she was pregnant,” he said.

Trevizo has since been released from custody on $100,000 bond, and will get to attend her high school graduation.
