The power of Christ compels you…to watch tonight’s exorcism live

Halloween TV programming usually is traditionally old cartoon specials and classic horror movies. There’s usually nothing truly scary on most networks in October. Destination America, a network owned by Discovery, hopes to change that by broadcasting a live exorcism tonight, October 30th.

The event will air live from St. Louis, in the house that inspired the novel and film The Exorcist. In 1949, a young boy known as Roland Doe was exorcized by Catholic priests in the St. Louis house. The exorcism generated interest in the ritual in general, and rumors have persisted for years that the house in now haunted by the demonic entity that was forced from Doe.

The house will be explored and exorcised by the cast of the reality TV series Ghost Asylum, a psychic, and a Catholic Bishop. The production is ready for everything, including the entity latching itself onto a member of the crew, which can cause nausea, scratches on the skin, and superhuman strength. Paramedics and police will be on stand by during the event.

This has been in the works for well over a year. The cast of Ghost Asylum, known as the Tennessee Wraith Hunters, will attempt to lure the entity out of its slumber so it can be exorcised by the Bishop. The exorcism will not be performed on a person, but on the house itself. However, the supposed demonic entity may become agitated and could attempt to possess someone with the television crew. There’s no word yet on whether any demon sedatives will be on hand.

Although Destination America will be broadcasting this farce, it also will be simulcasted online. Six cameras will be in the house, and viewers can go online and look at each individual live feed. The cameras will allow viewers to see every room of the house even when the crew is elsewhere.

Viewers are encouraged to alert the crew if they see anything suspicious by tweeting with the hashtag #ExorcismLIVE. The feeds can all be found on the event’s official website, and the attic camera is currently live hours before the show’s premiere.
