Top Republican says Trump-Russia connections need to be ‘exhaustively’ investigated

This Tuesday, GOP senator Roy Blunt (R-MO) broke with many of his Republican colleagues and called for an investigation into Trump-Russia ties.

“I think everybody needs that investigation to happen,” Blunt said to KTRS radio.

“And the Senate Intelligence Committee, again that I serve on, has been given the principal responsibility to look into this, and I think we should look into it exhaustively so that at the end of this process, nobody wonders whether there was a stone left unturned, and shouldn’t reach conclusions before you have the information that you need to have to make those conclusions,” he added.

“What did [Flynn] know? What did he do? And is there any reason to believe that anybody else knew that and didn’t take the kind of action they should have taken?” he said.

“For all of us, finding out if there’s a problem or not and sooner rather than later is the right thing to do,” he added.

CNN reports that a growing contingent of GOP Senators are calling for investigations into details surrounding Flynn.

Sen. John Cornyn told reporters Tuesday that the Senate standing committees with oversight of intelligence need to investigate Flynn.

Asked by CNN if he wanted the Senate’s standing committees to investigate Flynn, Cornyn replied: “Yes.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham also said he wants an investigation into Flynn’s conversations with a Russian ambassador about sanctions.

“I think Congress needs to be informed of what actually Gen. Flynn said to the Russian ambassador about lifting sanctions,” the South Carolina Republican told CNN’s Kate Bolduan on “At This Hour.”

Flynn claimed his misleading of Vice President Pence on his contacts with Russia was due to the “fast pace of events” leading up to Trump’s transition to the White House.
