Trump: Ashli Babbitt was an ‘innocent, wonderful, incredible woman’

Speaking on Fox News this Sunday, former President Donald Trump praised the woman killed by Capitol police during the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Trump was being interviewed by Fox host Maria Bartiromo, who undermined the notion that the riot was an “armed insurrection,” saying that “no guns were seized.”

“Right,” Trump responded. “There were no guns whatsoever, and yet Antifa, which went into Portland and went into so many other places … there were no repercussions for them.”

“And yet they have people still in jail,” Trump continued. “There were no guns … And by the way, while you’re at it, who shot Ashli Babbit? Why are they keeping that secret? Who was the person that shot an innocent, wonderful, incredible woman — a military woman, right in the head and there’s no repercussions. If that were on the other side, it would the biggest story in this country. Who shot Ashli Babbit? People want to know, and why.”

“I will tell you they know who shot Ashli Babbitt,” Trump later said, claiming the person’s identity is being protected, but the truth is “going to come out.”

Babbitt was shot in the shoulder while climbing through a broken door into the Speaker’s Lobby as the mob of Trump supporters tried to gain access to the House of Representatives chamber.
