Trump heckled during Jamestown speech: ‘Virginia’s our home — You can’t send us back!’

While giving a speech during an event in Jamestown, Virginia this Tuesday, President Trump was interrupted by a delegate from the state who shouted, “You can’t send us back!”

The event marked the 400th anniversary of the first legislative assembly in Jamestown, as well as the first African slaves arrived in America.

“It was the beginning of a barbaric trade in human lives,” Trump said. “Today in honor we remember every sacred soul who suffered the horrors of slavery and the anguish of bondage.”

“In the face of grave oppression and grave injustice, African Americans have built, strengthened, inspired, uplifted, protected, defended and sustained our nation from its very earliest days,” he continued.

It was around that point that a man in the audience began yelling, “Mr. President, you can’t send us back, Virginia is our home.”

The man was immediately met with boos and a pro-Trump chant from the President’s supporters.

According to The New York Post, the heckler was Ibraheem Samirah, a Democrat and a Muslim, and also the youngest Virginia delegate at 27-years-old.

“I just disrupted the [Trump] speech in Jamestown because nobody’s racism and bigotry should be excused for the sake of being polite,” Samirah tweeted. “The man is unfit for office and unfit to partake in celebration of democracy, representation, and our nation’s history of immigrants.”

Samirah’s heckling comes in the wake of backlash against Trump over his remarks targeting progressive Democratic congresswomen of color, as well as his attacks against Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD), who is African American, denigrating his city of Baltimore as “rat infested.”

Trump doubled down on his attack on Cummings and his city just before he left for Virginia, saying that Baltimore “has been very badly mishandled for many years.”

“As you know, Congressman Cummings has been there for a very long time,” Trump said, according to The New York Post. “He has had an iron hand on it. It is a corrupt city, all you have to do is look at the facts. The government over the years has pumped in billions and billions of dollars to no avail. To absolutely no avail.”
