Trump offers explanation about his trouble walking down a ramp at West Point: ‘That was a booby trap’

During a speech at a rally in Greenville, North Carolina, Donald Trump harkened back to viral video that showed him apparently having trouble walking down a ramp after giving a speech at a West Point graduation ceremony.

“Did you ever notice when [Biden] had a hard time going up the stairs on the plane, nobody talks about that,” Trump said, referring to footage of Biden stumbling while climbing the stairs to board Air Force One. “The news didn’t cover it, not one network covered it. Now, when I made the best speech I’ve ever made, they said it was at West Point, and it was pouring and I had a ramp that was an ice skating rink.”

As RawStory points out, Trump’s claim that it was “pouring” that day is disputed. The video, which went viral in June of last year, shows Trump appearing to have trouble stabling himself while walking down the ramp. The video sparked a wave of conspiracy theories about his health.

“So I walked gingerly down — that was on every newscast in the world and I never went down. I never went down, either, I never went on my ass,” Trump said. “I wasn’t gonna fall. I think that was a booby trap.”
