Trump on Mike Pompeo making staffers do his dishes: ‘Maybe his wife wasn’t around’

Responding to reports that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo allegedly make a taxpayer-funded staffer do household chores for him, President Trump said that even if the reports were true, it’s not that big of a deal.

“Here’s a man that is supposed to be negotiating war and peace with major, major countries with weaponry like the world has never seen before,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “And the Democrats and the fake news media, they are interested in a man who is walking their dog.”

“Maybe he’s busy,” Trump added. “Maybe he’s negotiating with Kim Jong Un about nuclear weapons.”

Trump went on to say that criticism of Pompeo allegedly using a taxpayer-funded staffer to do his personal chores was “stupid.”

“He’s a very brilliant guy. And now I have you telling me about a dog walking, washing dishes. And you know what? I would rather have him on the phone with some world leader than have him wash dishes because maybe his wife isn’t there or his kids aren’t,” Trump said. “What are you telling me? It’s terrible. It is so stupid. You know how stupid that sounds to the world? Unbelievable.”

On Monday Pompeo said that he asked Trump to fire State Department Inspector General Steve Linick because he was “undermining” the department and wasn’t performing how the top US diplomat wanted him to. Pompeo claims he did not know that Linick was investigating his alleged use of a staffer to do his chores.
