During his Hurricane Harvey do-over, President Trump seemed to be in good spirits. Even a cast iron heart like his is vulnerable to what a little human interaction can do. But even when Trump is practicing being human, his word choices leave the nation cringing.
“It’s been really nice,” Trump said of his visit to the Houston Arena to meet with flood victims. “It’s been a wonderful thing. As tough as this was, it’s been a wonderful thing, I think even for the country to watch it and for the world to watch. It’s been beautiful.”
While the response from volunteers to help flood victims was beautiful, 43 people have so far been killed in what scientists are calling the “worst rainfall disaster in US history,” according to Business Insider.
Speaking about the flooding, Trump said, “The flooding? Oh, yeah, yeah, there’s a lot of water, but it’s leaving pretty quickly. But there’s a lot of water, a lot of water, but it’s moving out.”
During the same visit, Trump and First Lady Melania popped into another emergency shelter for Harvey victims and spent about 45 minutes with displaced families, handing out food.
As Trump was leaving, he reminded everyone, including the media, to “have a good time.”
