Trump supporters devastated after he finally endorses face masks: ‘I’m so saddened to see this’

This Monday, President Trump caused quite a stir after tweeting out an albeit late but full-throated endorsement of wearing face masks as a means to stem the spread of coronavirus.

“We are United in our effort to defeat the Invisible China Virus, and many people say that it is Patriotic to wear a face mask when you can’t socially distance,” Trump tweeted along with a picture of himself wearing a mask. “There is nobody more Patriotic than me, your favorite President!”

The tweet was received with mixed reactions, with many of Trump’s critics pointing out the move as being too little, too late. Some of Trump’s supporters tweeted praise, seemingly memory-holing the mixed messaging that previously came from the administration over face coverings. But there was a contingent of pro-Trump Twitter folks who expressed dismay at the fact that he would offer such a clear endorsement of a practice they’ve railed against.
