Twitter user ‘fixes’ Stanford sex-offender’s dad’s letter so it acknowledges the horror of sexual assault

Dan Turner, father of convicted rapist and former Stanford student Brock Turner, exacerbated outrage over his son’s bafflingly light 6-month prison sentence by penning a letter in defense of his son, calling the sentence a “steep price to pay for 20 minutes of action out of his 20-plus years of life.”

Twitter erupted in horror over the letter, describing it as a clear example of misogynist culture in action. Twitter user @AlexandraOzeri “fixed” the letter to include her own clarifications regarding Brock Turner’s of which his father assiduously tried to ignore.

The tweet reads “Here, I fixed his letter (changes in bold)…” with an attached screenshot showing her handiwork.

Ozeri’s altered letter makes explicit all the details Dan Turner chose to ignore in defense of his son.

She also tackled claims that the Brock is a fundamentally good person. Where the letter describes Brock as “positive contributor to society” and cites his lack of prior criminal history or violent behavior, Ozeri highlights that absurdity by comparing it to other crimes.

“Bringing up the fact that this was only his first rape is like bringing up that it’s somebody’s first murder or terrorist attack, so it’s still a crime,” she writes, adding that the inclusion of Brock’s life specifics were merely “cute details” that “don’t have anything to do with the crime committed.”

Ozeri goes on to state that in spite of what Dan Turner’s apologist letter might suggest, whatever punishment Brock Turner incurred by sexually assaulting an unconscious woman is his own responsibility.
