Fed up with the rampant victim-blaming demonstrated towards women who’ve been raped, a comedy group in India has released a parody public service announcement that has gone viral.
The tongue-in-cheek video from All India Bakchod features Bollywood actresses gleefully explaining to women that rape is “your fault.” The joke is not about the act of rape itself, but about the shocking excuses made by many Indian male politicians and pundits in the wake of recent high-profile rape cases.
“Every sexual assault case in India inspires a string of stupid and hateful remarks against women,” the group wrote on their Youtube page. “This is our response to those remarks.”
The video has gone viral, acquiring over 2 million views in just over a week.
The video is among a campaign of efforts in the country that are dedicated to exposing and shaming the archaic ideas that perpetuate sexual crimes, along with denigrating women and their rights in general.
