WATCH: Iraq war veteran and peace activist aggressively arrested for standing under a tree

Footage has been circulating the Internet that shows anti-war activist and Iraq veteran Emily Yates being aggressively taken into custody by park rangers — for apparently doing nothing more than standing under a tree.

Not much is known about the circumstances leading up to the arrest, but the incident took place at a recent Philadelphia No War with Syria rally. At the outset of the video, Yates is seen trying to reason with four park rangers, wondering why she’s being asked to leave the place she’s standing since she’s not violating any laws.

Although the audio of the initial exchange is poor, it shows the rangers apparently giving Yates an ultimatum, to which she turns and appeals to the crowd of onlookers. During the brief moment her back is turned to the rangers, two men swoop in and force her hands behind her back, bending her over a park bench.

She is then shown being carried away by her arms and legs to a patio area where the four rangers pin her to the ground and continue to restrain her.

UPDATE:

A web page claiming to be the “Emily Yates Defense Fund” insisted that the activist “was not engaged in any illegal activity and was not told why she was being attacked.”
