We can’t stop watching this ‘kinetic sculpture’ that mimics the movements and sounds of a wave

A kinetic “sculpture” called Unstable Matter by Finnish artists Tommi Grönlund and Petteri Nisunen, a.k.a. Grönlund-Nisunen is a moving table containing thousands of small ball bearings that move and crash within its confines.

Amazingly, the movement of the ball bearings mimics the coming and going of an ocean wave, replicating the sound of the ocean.

The table is part of several kinetic and magnetized works by the duo that were recently on view at Esther Schipper in Berlin.
