White woman to Latina woman in store checkout line: ‘I hope Trump deports you’

Another video of someone voicing their racist opinions is going viral, this time showing a white woman in a grocery checkout line berating another woman of Puerto Rican decent.

Johanny Santana posted the video to Facebook about 2 weeks ago, and it shows her in line to buy groceries in Abington Township, located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. As the video shows, the woman was apparently annoyed that Santana was speaking Spanish. When Santana asked if there was a problem, the woman responded, “Can you stop talking to me?”

“I was born here, you don’t belong here,” the woman told Santana as the exchange became more heated. “Go back to your own country — we’re not your fu***ing piggyback.”

The woman also told Santana that she “should be deported” because she “came here illegally,” adding that she hopes Trump deports her.

Speaking to NBC 10 Philadelphia, Santana said that she isn’t proud of replying to the woman with her own insults, but she felt “powerless” because her English wasn’t strong enough to express herself.

“I felt powerless because I didn’t speak English well enough to be able to properly respond to her,” Santana said.

As NBC 10 points out, hate crime reports in the U.S. increased by 17% between 2016 and 2017. About 59.6% of those were motivated by race, ethnicity or ancestry.
