Woman who assaulted 12-year-old for riding his bike on a sidewalk is arrested and charged with battery

A woman in Santa Ana, California, has been charged with battery after she was caught on video assaulting a 12-year-old for riding his bike on the sidewalk, KTLA-5 reports.

Jeffrey Vandervort was riding his bike Sunday evening when he was approached by his neighbor, Susan Garcia. The next few moments were captured on a GoPro camera that Vandervort mounted on his bike. The video shows Garcia yelling at Vandervort to get off the sidewalk before she grabs his handlebars.

“She walked over to me and just started yelling and pushed me into this little tree and then hit me in the back,” the 12-year-old told KTLA. When Vandervort tells Garcia not to touch him, she replies, “I’ll do what I want.”

Whitney Gregory, Vandervort’s mother said she told her son to ride in the sidewalk after he was nearly hit by a car last week. In the video, Garcia tells her that her son intentionally tried to run her over with his bike.

“I hold my kids accountable when they do wrong,” Gregory said. “I think she needs to be held accountable for what she did.”
