Woman who harassed Black man outside his home is fired by her employer after video goes viral

A California woman who harassed a Black man and his two children as they stood outside his home has been fired by her employer after the video was circulated widely on the internet, the Atlanta Black Star reports.

Lisa Smith was caught on video repeatedly questioning Joshua Miller why he was there what he was doing. Smith’s employer, Change Healthcare, sent a statement to the Atlanta Black Star saying that Smith was no longer employed at the company as a result of the video.

“We are aware of a video recently posted on social media involving one of our former employees,” the statement read. “At Change Healthcare, one of our core values is Including All. Consistent with our core values and policies, we value diversity, promote inclusion, and seek to maintain a workplace free of harassment and discrimination. We do not share specific information about any employee, current or former. However, this individual is no longer with Change Healthcare.”

Miller posted the video to social media the same night the incident happened. Within hours, it went viral. Later that night, Miller and his brother, Isaac, were able to identify the woman and her employer and tagged them in another post. By the next day, Smith had changed all her social media.

“I just got off the phone with @Change_HC actually they hung up on us. They didn’t want the call recorded. Didn’t apologize,” Miller tweeted. “Just asked me what led up to this!!!! When all that led up to this the racism of Lisa Smith. They were never planning on doing anything. #racialprofiling”

On Thursday, the company released the same statement on Twitter that they had shared with Atlanta Black Star.
