Internet erupts after Ricky Gervais tweets photo of smiling hunter and the giraffe she killed

Thanks to British comedian Ricky Gervais, a big game hunter from Utah is the focus of Internet outrage after Gervais tweeted a photo of her lying next to a giraffe she just killed.

Thanks to British comedian Ricky Gervais, a big game hunter from Utah is the focus of Internet outrage after Gervais tweeted a photo of her lying next to a giraffe she just killed.

Predictably, the photo went viral and Rebecca Francis, a mother of 8, has been reportedly receiving death threats.

Francis’ website and Facebook page are dedicated to posting photos of the exotic animals she pays to kill with a bow and arrow.

“We hunt elk and deer every year without fail, even through pregnancy, and nursing babies. Our hunting trips are self-guided,” Francis wrote on her website.

“I prefer bowhunting, and the animals I have taken with a bow include: a 10 1/2 ft. brown bear, black bear, shiras moose, alaskan moose, dall sheep, stone sheep, desert bighorn ram, rocky mountain bighorn ram, mule deer, whitetail deer, elk, mountain goat, antelope, arapawa ram, kudu, zebra, black wildebeest, giraffe, springbuck, blesbuck, lynx, badger, and squirrel. I have also taken many of the same species and more with a rifle.”

An outspoken advocate of animal rights, Gervais tweeted a photo of Francis lying next to a giraffe she had just killed.

Responding to the outrage, Francis explained that 5 years ago, natives had asked her to kill the giraffe so that they could have the meat because the animal was “inevitably going to die soon.”

Rebecca Francis poses with a dead bear in her video, “Girls Only Black Bear Hunt.”

“I chose to honor his life by providing others with his uses and I do not regret it for one second,” she insisted. “Once he was down there were people waiting to take his meat.” “They also took his tail to make jewelry, his bones to make other things, and did not waste a single part of him,” Francis continued. “I am grateful to be a part of something so good.”

We just connected with Rebecca Francis and got a statement on her Giraffe hunt that anti-hunters are attacking her for. …

Talk about an innocent animal! It is the woman that needs to be shot!

If that were true it seems she would have the sensitivity to not take photos of its corpse.

This Monster is one sick bitch! Anyone who gets pleasure from killing a living thing has got to be very sick in the head. I’m sure she brags and posts these pictures to get attention from people! Pathetic excuse for a human being!

It’s this woman who needs to be put out of her misery. Not this innocent animal. Nature takes care of it’s own. Too bad it hasn’t yet taken care of her.

So if a person claims to have made use of every part of a human body after murdering them would that suddenly mean that its ok to kill a person..? Disgusting excuse for her actions and generally a disgusting excuse for a human being, may she rot in hell 🙂 (leaving a smiley face for her here)

Yeah right. I bet she was going to eat that black bear too. Another ‘perfect-looking’ over-consuming psychopath. This one is just stupid enough to be proud of it.

I think one should listen to her full explanation about the killing before passing judgement. Although there is no excuse for the photograph which was bound to be misinterpreted.

I need no explanation of why someone would lay down beside one of God’s creatures that she has just killed. To be proud of doing such a thing and than make light of it by posting such callous pictures is a sick person to me. No further explanation is needed!

If the locals needed the meat, why didn’t they kill it themselves? There’s something very wrong with taking so much joy in killing things.

Do not use a religion as a reason or excuse for opinions – all credibility is lost! Use ethics and/or common sense.

Excellent point. It’s hard to believe African natives NEED a pretty white woman to come in and save them from the deadly, elderly giraffe, as she claimed.

Is she trying to imply that no one in that village knew how to kill the giraffe, that they had to ask her to do it for them? Talk about delusions of grandeur. What a disgusting human being.

So, she expects us to believe that she was hired as a contract killer by “the natives” who were ill equipped to kill a giraffe that they had diagnosed with a five year terminal condition? She has eight kids, and is proud of killing things. What a terrible, stupid person.

What’s her excuse about the bear she killed? If the animal was going to die, let him die as nature intended.

  18. MissDenver

    April 16, 2015 at 2:26 am

She’s also killed “brown bear, black bear, shiras moose, alaskan moose, dall sheep, stone sheep, desert bighorn ram, rocky mountain bighorn ram, mule deer, whitetail deer, elk, mountain goat, antelope, arapawa ram, kudu, zebra, black wildebeest, giraffe, springbuck, blesbuck, lynx, badger, and squirrel.” I guess they were ALL old, dying and every part of them used??? Nothing but excuses for murder.

So I suppose all the other animals she has killed were also to feed the poor? Yep can’t wait to try some of that badger meat. Or the lnyx. She just likes to kill!

  20. joe

    April 16, 2015 at 2:36 am

What’s this BS about being asked to kill it? She pays money to kill living things. She’s trying to make her kill benevolent by claiming the giraffe’s remains were not wasted to try to distract us from the gruesome fact that she hunts for the thrill of killing.

Sad and scary.. this sick low life who takes joy in murder, is raising children who will have the same mind set. When she has joyfully killed one of each type of animal. Will a human be next? Scary…

If the natives wanted meat from the old lonely giraffe they wouldve done it easily by themselves and not ask for her to do it obviously…. the natives lived their life hunting and they dont hunt for sport like her, wouldve been hella easy to just get the native driver to stand next to the giraffe and take the photo

At least the giraffe wasn’t treated like the meat product animals here in the west. Led a normal life and was fully used for people in need, no waste. I don’t understand the rage fully. But who am I to say?

  26. Cam

    April 16, 2015 at 10:44 am

I love how she tries to pretend that the people living there begged her to kill the giraffe for them, like she was their only hope for meat. Yes, because NOBODY in Africa apparently hunts. How lucky for that village that she just HAPPENED to be there to feed them.

if her logic is applied that the giraffe was old then we should kill all the old people too. as they are also going to die soon

Unless you are a Vegan (who never eats meat or eggs) and are someone that never buys shoes made of leather, never wears makeup or cologne (both tested on animals or made out of animal extracts) or never owns a leather chair or car with leather interior, you are a huge hypocrite for calling out someone else as a monster for killing a living thing. Species all over the planet kill other living things on a daily basis to put food “on the table”. Read the explanation of why she chose to put down the giraffe. While I admit the photo was in poor taste , it doesn’t mean that people who hunt for their own food are evil.

this world is coming to something when starving African tribesmen have to ask a woman from Utah to kill them something for dinner

  32. Bman

    April 16, 2015 at 6:05 pm

Some people forget that meat doesn’t come in neat little packages at the store for many in the world. Even our neat little packages were once a living breathing animal that was probably did not live a pleasant life and died a brutal death. Most of us don’t ever have to kill and skin our dinner. It is done by huge processing centers. All of you shaming this woman are just as bad unless you are total Vegan. You pull the trigger every time you buy meat.

Do you believe her explanation? Did some poor village need the bears, elk, deer, mountain goats that she paid to kill? Tribesmen have no means of providing meat to the village unless a Great White Hunter comes along? C’mon, this woman is a liar.

People find joy in hunting. I come from a deer hunting family in Michigan. After every successful hunt they take pictures. It’s something you wouldn’t understand unless you come from a family that hunts. The first humans hunted for survival as do most hunters today. My family hunts for meat and to reduce the deer population that grows to high and causes extremely high number of accidents. Don’t look down on this woman because you don’t understand her. As long as the meat is being used for a purpose then she. Isn’t doing anything wrong

How challenging can killing an old Giraffe be? I’m with you, if they needed the meat then they should have killed it themselves but that would have screwed up her Safari. If they were truly worried about conservation wouldn’t it have made more sense to allow it to die and feed the other wild animals? It would not have gone waste, it’s the circle of life. Whaaaat’s on the menu?

So if someone from the tribe had killed it, that;d be okay. But if they offered it to her, and she helped feed the tribe, that;s not okay… got it… I think…
Sometimes other cultures offer an outsider to kill an animal (or join rituals and ceremonies) as a sign of respect or honor.
My parents worked for a charity that was working amongst the locals near Belem Brazil in the 1950;s. They turned down a similar offer, but I can understand this situation.

These types of people are always painfully ignorant. I’ve never met anyone who kills animals for sport or any gun but that was even half way intelligent. When Turd Nugent is the poster pedophile for your club, you need to consider using your 2A rights on yourself.
