Muslims stand guard outside Christian church service during heightened security alert

Following the French Interior Minister’s call for an increase in security during Christmas, a group of 12 Muslim men stood guard over a church during worship services in the small French coastal town of Pas-de-Calais.

The symbolic show of unity and offering of protection from potential terrorist attacks was organized by Hashim El Jazaoui of the Union of Muslim Citizens, according to Belgium’s RT.

“We want to say that we are all together. We are brothers,” Jazaoui said in a statement. “We are in the same boat. If the boat sinks, we all sink. If mentally ill people want to kill us, they will have to kill us all together.”

The gesture of solidarity was well received by the clergy and the some 200 Christians who attended the church’s services. Those who attended the services offered words of thanks and peace to the men that stood outside their church.
