Christian group rushes to support ‘God-fearing men’ who killed Ahmad Arbery

Shortly after news of the arrests of father and son Gregory and Travis McMichael for the February 23 shooting death of 25-year-old Ahmad Arbery, there have been small pockets of support for the duo, some of which is coming from a Christian Facebook group who claims the pair was just “trying to protect their neighborhood.”

As News4Jax points out, the private Facebook group “Christians Against Google” recently changed their name to “Justice for Gregory and Travis Michael.”

“These 2 God fearing men were only trying to protect their neighborhood,” the group’s “About” section reads. “This area has had a string of break-ins and this man fit the description and did not comply with simple commands. Our hearts go out to the McMichael family in their time of need. Amen.”

As of this writing, the group has just over 104,000 members.

Arbery was killed just outside the port city of Brunswick, Georgia. The McMichaels pursued him in a pickup truck and headed him off on a residential road. At that point, Travis McMichael exited the truck with a shotgun and confronted him where the two engaged in a struggle that ended with Arbery being shot and killed.

Update: Soon after this article was published, the group was removed from Facebook. It’s not known if the group’s administrators removed the page or if was done by Facebook itself.
