Christian ‘historian’: The Second Amendment ensures your right to own cannons and a tank

In the event that the citizenry needs to fight against the US government’s military machine, people should be able to own a tank or a cannon — or two, according to fake historian, David Barton.

Speaking to conservative comedian Stephen Crowder this Tuesday, Barton said that the Second Amendment was meant to allow ordinary citizens the privilege of owning military-grade weapons.

“The deal was you have a right to defend yourself,” Barton told Crowder in a video clip flagged by Right Wing Watch.

“So, the biggest weapon in that day would have been a cannon—hand’s down, a cannon,” Barton said. “You’re allowed, as a citizen, to own cannons.”

According to Barton, whatever the government can have, “you can have.”

“Because we might have to take on the government some day,” he continued. “We hope that never happens, but in case it does, we defend ourselves from anything that comes after us, whether it’s from foreign or domestic, whether it’s a gang, whether it’s a government, whether it’s a crazy uncle, we don’t care. So, for them, there was no limitation on what you could use or how you could defend yourself.”

“They were okay with cannons and that would be our equivalent of high-capacity magazines or machine guns, or it could be equivalent to a tank,” he added.
