Christian preacher: Trump admin’s push to decriminalize homosexuality shows America’s ‘evil influence’

It was an uncharacteristic headline pertaining to the Trump presidency: “Trump administration launches global effort to end criminalization of homosexuality.” The effort is being lead by U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell, the highest profile openly gay person in the Trump administration.

For an administration with a questionable record on LGBT rights, it was welcome news. But one has to wonder how the move is going over with President Trump’s far-right evangelical base. If Lance Wallnau is any indication, the answer is not well.

In a video posted to his Facebook page Wednesday night, the right-wing preacher lamented the campaign, saying the U.S. has no right to inflict “our craziness” on other nations.

According to Wallnau, decriminalizing homosexuality around the world should be the last thing on the agenda, considering how oppressed white Christian people in MAGA hats are.

“You want to hear the truth? Gays are celebrated everywhere, from ‘Hamilton’ on Broadway to the Tony Awards to the Academy Awards,” Wallnau said in a clip flagged by Right Wing Watch. “There is no group that is more lifted up and celebrated and promoted than the LGBT movement. It’s the opposite of persecution. You want to know persecution is? Be a white evangelical conservative and … put a MAGA hat on; you might as well put a cross on and go to Saudi Arabia.”

Wallnau then opened up a prayer, calling on the Lord to “break” the momentum of the decriminalization campaign.

“I pray that the State Department’s progress with their LGBT agenda, their zeal for the gay agenda and their politics, and the State Department’s funding, break that in Jesus’ name,” Wallnau prayed.

“We have no right to impose on other nations our craziness in terms of our cultural definition of liberty,” he continued. “We don’t have a right to mess with other countries’ sovereignty and their religious beliefs. Oh my God, in Jesus’ name, I would like America to be saved, but for America to be saved, it’s got to not be an evil influence in the world.”
