GOP lawmaker: We didn’t have mass shootings ‘before prayer was eliminated from school’

During a House debate on gun violence, Texas GOP Rep. Louie Gohmert slammed Democrats’ criticism of Republicans alleged inaction on guns and their theories as to why gun violence happens.

“…to be told that we have no courage —  we were told in debate last week, they don’t want to hear anymore about social media, violent video games, Hollywood, mental illness — and they sure don’t want to hear anymore about prayers,” Gohmert said.

Gohmert then went on to literally suggest that a lack of prayer in the U.S. is tied to gun violence.

“They’re disgusted hearing about prayers,” Gohmert continued, speaking of Democrats. “They don’t want to hear anymore about fatherlessness, drug use — look, maybe if we heard more prayers from leaders in this country instead of taking God’s name in vain, we wouldn’t have the mass killings like we didn’t have before prayer was eliminated from school.”
