GOP pollster says Republicans are mocking Trump behind his back: ‘They think he’s a child’

Top GOP pollster Frank Luntz said in a recent interview with The Daily Beast that Republicans are privately mocking former President Donald Trump, partly because they’re “tired of going back and rehashing the 2020 election.”

One of those Republicans is New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R), who made headlines for saying at the Gridiron Club’s annual dinner that Trump is “f***ing crazy.”

“I don’t think he’s so crazy that you could put him in a mental institution,” Sununu added. “But I think if he were in one, he ain’t getting out.”

According to Luntz, although Sununu’s comments were made at a roast, many members of the GOP feel the same way.

“I don’t know a single Republican who was surprised by what Sununu said. He said what they were thinking,” Luntz said. “They won’t say it [in public], but behind his back, they think he’s a child. They’re laughing at him.”

“That’s what made [Sununu’s comments] significant,” he added.

“Trump isn’t the same man he was a year ago,” Luntz said. “Even many Republicans are tired of going back and rehashing the 2020 election. Everybody else has moved on and in Washington everyone believes he lost the election.”
