Kidnapper crashes into home and kills his 7-month-old victim

A baby who was kidnapped died after her kidnapper crashed the Chevrolet Camaro he was driving into a home in Northern Ohio, USA Today reported.

The identities of the suspect and the baby have not yet been made public. Police say the suspect, who was taken to the hospital after the crash, is in critical condition.

“My heart breaks for the family of this innocent child and you can be sure this matter will be investigated thoroughly to determine exactly why and what occurred today,” Tiffin Police Chief David Pauly said in a press release. “The Tiffin Police wish to extend our deepest condolences to the family.”

The incident began when police got a call to “be on the lookout” for an armed man who abducted a 7-month old child and was driving a yellow Camaro.

“The male subject had indicated he was feeling homicidal and suicidal and had made a statement to the child’s mother that he killed the baby,” Pauly said.

When police tried to initiate a traffic stop, the suspect sped off, initiating a chase. The suspect drove “erratically drove off the roadway,” through the front yard of a home and crashed into another residence, knocking it off its foundation.

The child was extracted from the vehicle and had serious injuries, and later died at the hospital. It’s not known if the child sustained the injuries before or as a result of the crash.

A loaded weapon was found in the vehicle with at least one spent cartridge.
