This Friday, President Trump unveiled the logo for the newly established sixth branch of the military, the Space Force.
“After consultation with our Great Military Leaders, designers, and others, I am pleased to present the new logo for the United States Space Force, the Sixth Branch of our Magnificent Military!” Trump tweeted on Friday long with a picture of the logo.

Some thought the photo looked a little too much like the logo for the fictional Starfleet from the Star Trek universe:

But as former national security policy advisor John Noonan points out, the new logo is borrowed from an existing Air Force command logo.
