Texas Republicans: Coronavirus is Democrat plot against Trump — ‘so take off your masks’

Republicans in Bexar County, Texas, held a press conference in front of San Antonio City Hall this Friday to slam local leaders for the lockdown orders they’ve implemented in response to the coronavirus outbreak.

According to Republican Party Chair Cynthia Brehm, Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff are infringing on citizens’ constitutional rights, specifically with the mask recommendations disseminated by city officials.

“They asked us to wear masks, and according to Attorney General (Ken) Paxton, this is unconstitutional,” Brehm said. “So if we don’t want to wear masks, this is our choice. This is America, and we shouldn’t have to be forced or mandated to wear a mask.”

Also speaking out was another local Republican official, who seemed to take particular pleasure in pointing out that the virus came China. He also claimed that the chances of catching the coronavirus was 0.05 percent.

According to a recent study conducted by Hong Kong researchers, wearing a mask in public is instrumental in slowing the spread of coronavirus. The researchers found that the virus’ transmission rate via respiratory droplets or airborne particles dropped by as much as 75% when people wore masks.
