Mark Morgan is President Trump‘s pick to be the next director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), but a past interview he gave on Fox News that recently resurfaced is calling into question his ability to think like a rational human being.
Speaking to Fox’s Tucker Carlson this January, Morgan claimed that he can look into the eyes of a minor and judge whether or not they’ll grow up to live a life of crime.
“I’ve been to detention facilities where I’ve walked up to these individuals that are so-called minors, 17 or under,” Morgan said on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” in January. “I’ve looked at them and I’ve looked at their eyes, Tucker — and I’ve said that is a soon-to-be MS-13 gang member. It’s unequivocal.”

According to a report from HuffPost, Morgan became a consistent cheerleader for Trump’s immigration policies after his interview with Carlson, racking up almost 100 TV appearances on Fox News, CNN, and Glenn Beck‘s TheBlaze TV. But as HuffPost points out, his most welcoming network was Fox, “which portrayed him as a former Obama administration official who saw the light.”
Morgan has appeared at least 80 times on either the Fox News Channel or the affiliated Fox Business since January, according to a tally of transcripts compiled by the media monitoring site TV Eyes and footage gathered by American Bridge, a Democratic political action committee.
That figure amounts to an appearance on Fox News channels about every other day ― not including times the network recycled footage of his interviews.
Now, it seems like his TV appearances were basically a 5-month-long interview process for his next job. On May 5, Trump nominated him to the next director 0f ICE.
Adding to Morgan’s questionable fitness for the job is his less-than-stellar rapport with immigration officials. According to HuffPost, National Border Patrol Council’s president, Brandon Judd, called him a “disgrace” in an opinion piece he wrote back in 2o16.
Before his nomination to head ICE, Morgan slightly echoed his Fox News commentary during testimony he gave to the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee in April.
“MS-13 is one of the most violent and prolific transnational gangs the U.S. [has] ever seen,” he said. “And the influx of minors into the country through the current crisis will provide them with unlimited vulnerable prospects.”
You don’t need to look into Morgan’s eyes to know his opinion of migrant children is reprehensible.
