On HBO’s Last Week Tonight, host John Oliver slammed CEOs who make millions of dollars in profits while selling cheap clothes to American consumers – all the while knowing that those clothes are being made in sweatshops by children working in horrible conditions.
Consumers didn’t get a pass in Oliver’s rant either. He pointed out that the people buying these cheap clothes know just as well that they are made in sweatshop conditions.
The host pointed to a dress made by retailer H&M that costs $4.95.
“Think about that, “Oliver explained. “That means you could take a five-dollar bill, scotch-tape it over your genitals, and you’d be wearing a more expensive piece of clothing.”
